“After my military service, I had a hard time learning how to rely on the Lord again. My godfather, who is also a veteran and hunter, had participated in hunts with Justus Believers and had known LJ for a while. He connected me with LJ and set me up on a turkey hunt.
Being around men who had truly been at the tip of the spear, yet still lived as God-fearing Christians, had a huge impact on me. Seeing their faith and how they carried themselves helped me start looking at things differently.
Later that fall, LJ invited me on a muzzleloader deer hunt. During that trip I met another veteran and hunter who had a much more storied military career than mine, but also ended his career in a way similar to me. What stood out to me was that he didn’t carry any bitterness about it, even despite all he had been through. Instead, he saw it as simply part of how the Lord had changed his orders. Hearing that completely changed my outlook on my own situation.
That hunt ended up being a blessing in more ways than one-I was also fortunate enough to harvest a deer that made the ones back home look tiny. More importantly though, the experience helped me regain perspective and grow stronger in my faith.”
